On the other hand, due to the cyclonic storm “Vayu”, the state government has declared holiday on June 13 and 14 in 10 districts. Apart from this, Home Minister Amit Shah also reviewed all the preparedness to deal with the storm.
Amit Shah directed the concerned officers to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of the people. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has already deployed 39 teams in Gujarat and Diu. Each team has about 45 workers. Rescue teams are equipped with boats, tree cutting machines and telecommunication equipment. 34 teams of the Army have been kept ready.
An official of the Home Ministry said that the Ministry has issued a detailed consultation with the Gujarat and Union Territory of Diu to take all the precautionary measures. To ensure that no one has lost a life, the potential loss to the major infrastructure can be minimized, and immediately after the end of the cyclone, all the necessary services can be repaired.
Officials from Gujarat and Diu planned to take around 3 lakh people from safer areas to safer places since Wednesday morning. About 700 cyclone and relief shelters have been built to accommodate these people. An official of the Home Ministry said that Shah also stressed on the need to restore all the necessary services like electricity, telecommunications, health, drinking water and restore the services immediately in case of damage from the cyclone.
With the governments of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka, the Union Territory is in constant touch with Daman and Diu. The official said that units of Indian Coast Guard, Navy, Army and Air Force have been kept ready and monitoring aircraft and helicopters are monitoring the air. Air Force has deployed a C-17 transport aircraft to run humanitarian assistance and disaster redemption (HADR) operations.
According to the Meteorological Department, the wind is expected to reach the coast of Gujarat on June 13. It is likely to have heavy rains in coastal districts of Gujarat. It can collide between the Porbandar and Mahua via the beach around Veraval and Diu region. The storm coming at 110-120 kilometers per hour could catch the speed of 135 kilometers per hour on the 13th of June.
The Meteorological Department is issuing regular bulletins to all the concerned states from April 9. Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha chaired the meeting of the National Crisis Management Committee which reviewed preparedness related to hurricane air. Arrangements have been made to warn people about hurricanes by sending municipal and mass SMS in the media.
